Sweet Taste Of Sugar

I never been to this place yet, but really love the enviroment especailly attracted by the unique atmosphere.. Sounds good should go there.....

Lounge on plush leather sofas while listening to jazz music and sipping on champagne or chose to party hard to a turbo sound system with DJ’s spinning the best in retro, funky soul and R&B in the hottest place to be right now. ZUFAR ZAHRAN lets you in on a club that brings a whole new meaning to one of our favourite cravings.

Sugar by definition is a sweet crystalline or powdered substance, white when pure, consisting of sucrose obtained mainly from sugar cane and sugar beets and used in many foods, drinks, and medicines to improve and sweeten their taste. Sugar Club however is a 4,500 sq foot dance club, warm and stylish to create a space that’s very feminine and well, sweet. Hence the name. It is conveniently located off the lower lobby of the five star Crowne Plaza Mutiara Kuala Lumpur in the heart of KL’s golden triangle. Just a stone throws away from the more vibrant Jalan P. Ramlee’s numerous bars, gastropubs and clubs, Sugar provides customers an alternative to the many techno/house clubs around the area. If you are the type unable to rave all night to the latest techno and groove beats, Sugar provides a healthy substitute to those more inclined to chilling out, and dancing when the mood so fits.

Sugar is an up-market establishment with a soft ambience accentuated by low sofa seating and sheer fabric. It has an exclusive members club area featuring it’s own bar, a cigar room for those who enjoy relaxing while puffing away on their favourite Cuban, as well as many semi-private areas cordoned off by curtains for those who want to escape into their own private watering hole with friends. Its design and layout encourages patrons to engage in conversation while enjoying each other’s company within the privacy of their own area. The club is targeted at high net worth individuals aged 25 years onwards and is bound to attract the trendy more affluent lot as well as becoming a venue that guests will feel very comfortable in for a night of sensual entertainment. Sugar also attracts a wide
array of personalities, including celebrities, artistes, and socialites who frequent the club. Sugar boasts a completely fresh and exciting look, with the aim of creating an integrated flowing and functional space, with particular emphasis on a warm, casual, elegant and feminine ambience. Adding to the up-market ambience, Sugar emphasises strong and hospitable service, while providing guests with a mouth watering selection of imported wines, champagne, liquor, cocktails, finger foods and cigars.

What sets Sugar apart from other clubs in the area is the fact that it mixes both the chill-out concept with a dance club concept. Patrons will have the choice to either lounge back on the plush leather sofas while enjoying their favourite drinks, or show off their dancing prowess on the very accommodating dance floor, located at the back of the club. Sugar also boasts a high end Turbo sound system (rated as the best), to truly ensure that those of us more inclined to dancing will experience our favourite songs or beats on a whole new level. During happy hour
the club functions very much like a pub, with live bands or the resident DJ spinning some of today’s biggest R&B/Pop hits, as well as some golden oldies. Come 9pm, the lights are dimmed, transforming Sugar into a dance club playing a wide spectrum of retro, funky soul and hip hop sure to get your feet tapping and your soul grooving. A raised stage cum seating area, deejay console, dance floor, island bar and wifi hotspot for internet surfing complete the range of facilities available for customers.

Variety however is the spice of life, and Sugar embraces this philosophy by providing something different for every night of the week. On Mondays, drinkers are treated to Happy Hour prices all night long. Tuesday nights will attract the more suave, easy listening crowd as Jazz Night featuring Greg Lyons and friends croon and jam away. In keeping with the concept of a sweet and feminine ambience, Wednesday nights will be a sure blast with the aptly named Sugarinas Night (or Ladies Night as other clubs call it). Here ladies will be treated to cocktails and house wines at 50% off, whilst being entertained by a sizzling dance show.
Thursday’s will probably attract the older crowd as Sugar puts on it’s bell-bottoms and 10 inch platforms to provide customers with a night of endless hits from the 70’s and 80s. This retro night will surely strike a chord with many in the KL nightlife who are bored to death of the same old club music. Come Friday and Saturday, Sugar focuses more on being a dance club, catering to the younger generation who enjoy a good time either quietly drinking and partying with friends, or going wild on the dance floor.

Sugar is sure to win over some hearts by providing a much needed alternative to the many clubs around the Jalan P. Ramlee area. It’s emphasis on providing customers a warm relaxing ambience while also giving them an option to just lose it on the dance floor to the latest tunes is sure to be more than enough reason for many to frequent this club.
OWNER – Steve O’ConnellThe team behind Sugar comprises a wide assortment of people, with varying backgrounds. Steve O’Connell, from England is the executive director and shareholder of Sugar, along with Ms. Wendy Wong and Ms. Nancie Foo, both of whom are directors and shareholders. Some may already be familiar with both these women as Wendy is a well known celebrity, film producer and actress, while Nancie is an ex Miss Malaysia.

Before Sugar, Steve was the brainchild behind one of KL’s first house music clubs: - Connexions and Kafe Silhouette from 1993 up to 1998. It proved to be a great success in view of the fact that house music was rising exponentially amongst the night life crowd. Steve then left to Australia for about two and half years, before returning to KL. This time however, Steve visualised a place and a concept to cater more towards the affluent and trendy crowd, as he views the house music scene to be already saturated in KL. He has opted to provide a more executive dance club, with décor which accents on soft feminine motifs, to ensure a pleasant, sweet ambience which women can relate to. He strongly emphasizes however that Sugar is still primarily a dance club, aimed at attracting the younger generation, while providing something different through warm décor and lounge like areas where customers can relax and feel at home.

Steve braces himself for the challenges Sugar will bring by focusing on excellent customer service where up market patrons can feel comfortable as well as his vision and focus of providing the KL market with something else other than your run of the mill dance club or happy hour pub. By mixing them up, Sugar truly creates a unique atmosphere for those who enjoy dancing, while lounging with their favourite drinks at the same time.
