Choosing your portable

Planning to buy a new notebook PC but not sure where to start?
This review of some notebook models in four main categories to help you decide.

This year, we have seen a huge number of notebook PCs being launched – no doubt thanks to the Intel Core Duo processor released earlier this year as the heart of the new Centrino Duo platform.

And the best part is that these new processors are far more powerful than their predecessors, endowing notebook PCs with raw processing power that’s comparable to that of desktop PCs.
Rather than being a compromise, notebooks are fast becoming the platform of choice for most potential buyers. And unless you’re waiting for Windows Vista to be released sometime this decade, now’s a great time to splurge on a shiny new piece of black plastic.
But where do you begin? You may find two completely different-looking notebook PCs that bear the same type of processor and even similar prices. Here’s a quick guide to buying yourself a notebook PC.

1. Low-cost ultraportable
Normally costing between RM3,000 to RM5,000, these notebooks have screen sizes between 12in and 15in and come with the most basic specifications (non-Core Duo machines should cost less). Some models may offer optional enhancements such as better graphics cards, built-in webcams or extended battery packs.

2. Business-oriented
For around RM5,000 to RM9,000, these notebooks look a lot like low-cost compact notebooks but tend to be lighter, smaller and built to higher durability standards. Most will also include security features like thumbprint scanners and extensive docking and expansion options. These notebooks also tend to have the best battery life.

3. Large / multimedia
Targeted at multimedia enthusiasts, these notebooks cost between RM5,000 to over RM10,000. They normally have widescreen displays measuring from 15in to 17in and come with graphics cards and LCDs that are more suitable for playing games, watching movies or doing digital art. Some of these notebook PCs are also built to the same standards as business notebooks and can withstand a lot of abuse. However, they tend to be about 3kg or heavier.

4. Tablet PC
Tablet PCs are quite similar to business-oriented notebooks and tend to meet the same requirements for durability and portability. However, they have tilt-n-swivel LCD screens that can be written onto with a stylus (kind of like a giant PDA) – better for mobile users who may have to use their notebooks while standing. However, they tend to cost more too – to the tune of about RM7,000 to RM9,000.

Cheap Powerful Laptop Computers

The available cheap powerful laptop computers in the used laptop market are really a function of your definition of powerful. The secret to finding that cheap power laptop is to understand how the used laptop market works. You need to understand that the used laptop stores on the internet today all buy the available laptops in the wholesale channel. In other words we all pull from the same source.

To get the cheapest most powerful laptop for your money in the used market. You need to purchase the laptop that has just come off the manufacture warranty which is usually about 3 years old. The price will be just under $500. Today as of the writing of this page that is the Pentium III 1 Ghz laptop. They are just about 3 years old and are no longer under warranty from the manufacturer. Any laptop that comes under the $400 mark is about 4 years old. And it does not matter when you read this page. You will find that the prices stay about the same levels just that the laptop computers get faster. So if you are looking for cheap refurbished notebooks and laptops under $350 you will be getting what you are paying for a 5 to 6 year old laptop.

Tiredness

Introduction

I wan to share this because i found that tiredness is a biggest barrier that can stop us from enjoying and getting on with our lives. Hope that this will benefits all :) .

We all feel tired from time to time. For some of us, tiredness can be a more serious problem. It may go on for a long time or can be so bad that we can't do anything at all.

Do u ever think that psychology do cause tiredness, no matter how well or sufficient u slept, how healthy u r but once u hav psychology problems u will feel the tiredness? Our mind play an important role to control our tiredness also. There is 1 very good n simple method to release urself frm the tiredness, i learn this frm a book haha, it is quite effective to reduce our tiredness ,

Close ur eyes for 1 or 2 minutes, tell urself in mind "i wanna relax" repeat n repeat untill u feel that ur eyes, face, body become soft n relaxing. This method really works wan :) .Try it n feel it ya...

The article bellow elaborates the root cause of tiredness,

Tiredness is common - at any given time, 1 in every 5 people feel unusually tired, and 1 in 10 have prolonged fatigue. Women feel tired more than men, and it can be a problem at any age, but is least common in the very young and old.

If you want to work out how you became tired in the first place, it can be helpful to think about:

The things in your life that made you more likely to get tired
The things in your life that triggered your tiredness
The things in your life that are keeping you tired.

These can be physical or psychological, or more usually both at the same time.

Psychological

Worries and stress. If you have a lot to worry about, you are more likely to feel tired - especially when you cannot see a way out of your problems.

Insomnia. If you don't sleep well for a long time, you can start to feel tired, irritable and fed up.

Depression. Depression tends to make you feel tired all the time. It can also wake you early, which can make you feel even more tired.

Everyday difficulties. We all know that we can be stressed and exhausted when bad things happen to us. It's worth remembering that even positive events, like moving home or getting married, can be exhausting. Being faced with a difficult decision, especially “no win” situations, are exhausting.

Emotional shock. Bad news, bereavement or the break up of a relationship can all make you feel drained.

Expecting too much of yourself. We all set ourselves standards to aim at. We need them to give us a sense of direction. Sometimes we can expect too much of ourselves. If we do this, we set ourselves up to fail, leading to frustration and fatigue.

Physical

Being overweight.
If you are overweight, your body has to work harder just to do everyday things.

Being too thin. If you are too thin, you may not have enough strength in your muscles to do everyday things without becoming tired.

Physical illness. Any serious illness can make you tired, especially painful ones. Some less serious illnesses, like glandular fever, can leave you feeling worn out.

Treatments

The following treatments can tire you out:

Serious operations on your abdomen or chest. Certain drugs, such as beta blockers and strong pain-killers
Treatments for cancer, such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy

Being unfit. If you feel tired, you don't do as much as you normally would. If you cut down the amount you do, your body becomes unfit. We know that just one week of resting in bed reduces your muscle strength by 10%. The more unfit you get, the more tired you will be when you try and do something.

Pregnancy and breast feeding. Both of these can sap your energy.

Having your sleep disturbed. Anything that troubles your sleep can leave tired in the morning and affect your concentration.

Habits

Sleep. If you are feeling tired, you may sleep in the day. If you do this, you may find that you can't "switch off" at night, and so can't get to sleep.

Sleeping too much. Remarkably this can cause fatigue, if it becomes a habit.

Activity. A "roller-coaster" of too much activity followed by too much rest; If you do too much on a good day, you may overdo things and feel even more tired the next day.

Work and family. Continuing difficulties There are some things in our lives that we find it hard, or impossible to change. When we don't feel in control of our life, we will often feel frustrated and tired.

Looking after small children. No surprises here! If your child doesn't sleep through the night, neither do you. It can be really hard work just to keep going with your daily routine.

Night-work. Night-workers often find that they get tired easily. This is more likely if the timing of their shift is constantly being changed.

Work stress. Not working when you want to can tire you out through frustration. On the other hand, either too many demands at work with little control, or making a big effort with inadequate rewards are both stressful and can cause fatigue.

What we drink. Coffee and teaSix cups of coffee a day or ten cups of tea (or six mugs) are enough to upset the average person's sleep and make them wound-up and tired.

Alcohol. If you drink alcohol in the evening, it may wake you up in the middle of the night. If you drink quite a lot regularly, it can make you depressed and affect your sleep.

'The last straw'. It will often take several things together to make you feel tired. For example, if you feel stressed for a long time, you will probably sleep badly and feel 'below par'. You might then get the 'flu. This can be the 'last straw' which finally exhausts you. You feel that you have to rest to get over this, but then quickly become unfit. You will now find that just doing everyday things can make you even more tired. If you can't get back to your normal routine you will probably feel worried and frustrated. This gives you more sleepless nights and makes you more tired ....... and so a vicious circle is set up.

You mean, baby sitter!

I CAME across this highly amusing notice on the ground floor of my apartment. If only it were that easy to obtain a baby sister! Now, why didn’t I think of that rather than grow up as an only child?

To pass or to p---?

THERE’S surely some word missing in this toilet sign! Or else, the word “pass” should be changed to something else.

Sweet Taste Of Sugar

I never been to this place yet, but really love the enviroment especailly attracted by the unique atmosphere.. Sounds good should go there.....

Lounge on plush leather sofas while listening to jazz music and sipping on champagne or chose to party hard to a turbo sound system with DJ’s spinning the best in retro, funky soul and R&B in the hottest place to be right now. ZUFAR ZAHRAN lets you in on a club that brings a whole new meaning to one of our favourite cravings.

Sugar by definition is a sweet crystalline or powdered substance, white when pure, consisting of sucrose obtained mainly from sugar cane and sugar beets and used in many foods, drinks, and medicines to improve and sweeten their taste. Sugar Club however is a 4,500 sq foot dance club, warm and stylish to create a space that’s very feminine and well, sweet. Hence the name. It is conveniently located off the lower lobby of the five star Crowne Plaza Mutiara Kuala Lumpur in the heart of KL’s golden triangle. Just a stone throws away from the more vibrant Jalan P. Ramlee’s numerous bars, gastropubs and clubs, Sugar provides customers an alternative to the many techno/house clubs around the area. If you are the type unable to rave all night to the latest techno and groove beats, Sugar provides a healthy substitute to those more inclined to chilling out, and dancing when the mood so fits.

Sugar is an up-market establishment with a soft ambience accentuated by low sofa seating and sheer fabric. It has an exclusive members club area featuring it’s own bar, a cigar room for those who enjoy relaxing while puffing away on their favourite Cuban, as well as many semi-private areas cordoned off by curtains for those who want to escape into their own private watering hole with friends. Its design and layout encourages patrons to engage in conversation while enjoying each other’s company within the privacy of their own area. The club is targeted at high net worth individuals aged 25 years onwards and is bound to attract the trendy more affluent lot as well as becoming a venue that guests will feel very comfortable in for a night of sensual entertainment. Sugar also attracts a wide
array of personalities, including celebrities, artistes, and socialites who frequent the club. Sugar boasts a completely fresh and exciting look, with the aim of creating an integrated flowing and functional space, with particular emphasis on a warm, casual, elegant and feminine ambience. Adding to the up-market ambience, Sugar emphasises strong and hospitable service, while providing guests with a mouth watering selection of imported wines, champagne, liquor, cocktails, finger foods and cigars.

What sets Sugar apart from other clubs in the area is the fact that it mixes both the chill-out concept with a dance club concept. Patrons will have the choice to either lounge back on the plush leather sofas while enjoying their favourite drinks, or show off their dancing prowess on the very accommodating dance floor, located at the back of the club. Sugar also boasts a high end Turbo sound system (rated as the best), to truly ensure that those of us more inclined to dancing will experience our favourite songs or beats on a whole new level. During happy hour
the club functions very much like a pub, with live bands or the resident DJ spinning some of today’s biggest R&B/Pop hits, as well as some golden oldies. Come 9pm, the lights are dimmed, transforming Sugar into a dance club playing a wide spectrum of retro, funky soul and hip hop sure to get your feet tapping and your soul grooving. A raised stage cum seating area, deejay console, dance floor, island bar and wifi hotspot for internet surfing complete the range of facilities available for customers.

Variety however is the spice of life, and Sugar embraces this philosophy by providing something different for every night of the week. On Mondays, drinkers are treated to Happy Hour prices all night long. Tuesday nights will attract the more suave, easy listening crowd as Jazz Night featuring Greg Lyons and friends croon and jam away. In keeping with the concept of a sweet and feminine ambience, Wednesday nights will be a sure blast with the aptly named Sugarinas Night (or Ladies Night as other clubs call it). Here ladies will be treated to cocktails and house wines at 50% off, whilst being entertained by a sizzling dance show.
Thursday’s will probably attract the older crowd as Sugar puts on it’s bell-bottoms and 10 inch platforms to provide customers with a night of endless hits from the 70’s and 80s. This retro night will surely strike a chord with many in the KL nightlife who are bored to death of the same old club music. Come Friday and Saturday, Sugar focuses more on being a dance club, catering to the younger generation who enjoy a good time either quietly drinking and partying with friends, or going wild on the dance floor.

Sugar is sure to win over some hearts by providing a much needed alternative to the many clubs around the Jalan P. Ramlee area. It’s emphasis on providing customers a warm relaxing ambience while also giving them an option to just lose it on the dance floor to the latest tunes is sure to be more than enough reason for many to frequent this club.
OWNER – Steve O’ConnellThe team behind Sugar comprises a wide assortment of people, with varying backgrounds. Steve O’Connell, from England is the executive director and shareholder of Sugar, along with Ms. Wendy Wong and Ms. Nancie Foo, both of whom are directors and shareholders. Some may already be familiar with both these women as Wendy is a well known celebrity, film producer and actress, while Nancie is an ex Miss Malaysia.

Before Sugar, Steve was the brainchild behind one of KL’s first house music clubs: - Connexions and Kafe Silhouette from 1993 up to 1998. It proved to be a great success in view of the fact that house music was rising exponentially amongst the night life crowd. Steve then left to Australia for about two and half years, before returning to KL. This time however, Steve visualised a place and a concept to cater more towards the affluent and trendy crowd, as he views the house music scene to be already saturated in KL. He has opted to provide a more executive dance club, with décor which accents on soft feminine motifs, to ensure a pleasant, sweet ambience which women can relate to. He strongly emphasizes however that Sugar is still primarily a dance club, aimed at attracting the younger generation, while providing something different through warm décor and lounge like areas where customers can relax and feel at home.

Steve braces himself for the challenges Sugar will bring by focusing on excellent customer service where up market patrons can feel comfortable as well as his vision and focus of providing the KL market with something else other than your run of the mill dance club or happy hour pub. By mixing them up, Sugar truly creates a unique atmosphere for those who enjoy dancing, while lounging with their favourite drinks at the same time.

Luna Bar

This is a very nice place to go...feel the sensational life there..
Luna Bar
On Top of the World

Situated at the top of one of the glitziest spots on KL, Luna Bar is the brand new place to be, with a one-of-a-kind view by the poolside, perfect view to the stars, and the night breeze blowing in your hair. JOYCE WONG steps up to a bar that gives “high-class” a whole new meaning.

A location as exclusive as the rooftop of the Pan Regency Hotel is sure to draw a decent amount of public curiosity and attention. Since its opening in mid-December 2004, Luna Bar has been a name mentioned constantly among working professionals. It has even seen an impressive stream of local film stars, artistes, and models appearing there to relax.Getting to Luna Bar itself requires a bit more effort not necessary for other places. Customers have to take a lift up to Level 7, where they switch lifts to go up to Level 33. Here, a flight of stairs lead you to the rooftop where you enter at the side of the main area. Big-set beige couches grouped around tables line up the side of your pathway as you saunter into an atmosphere quite unlike any other in the city.

The lighting in Luna Bar is relatively bright compared to other bars, which is great for those who prefer to see the face of the one they’re conversing with. Elements such as dark wood and granite allow the bar’s Al Fresco theme to be brought down to a pat. They are accentuated wonderfully by deep comforting hues of red, orange, yellow and green lowlights around the whole area. The absence of taller buildings on all sides of the Panglobal establishment allows customers to fully appreciate the view without obstruction. This factor also contributes greatly to the cool night breeze that blows refreshingly on you while sipping on your drinks.

What sets Luna Bar apart from your typical Malaysian bar is its interesting blend of outdoor and indoor space. The view from the rooftop is spectacular and will no doubt be one of the x-factors in drawing crowds. Enjoying one of their popular cocktails while staring off into the beautiful array of nightlights is perfect for chilling out after a hard day’s work.

Luna Bar consists of two floors – the main area and the mezzanine floor. The main area, complete with the swimming pool and long bar, accommodates most customers. Although the pool is only available to hotel guests before the hour of 7 pm, the illumination of the lights on the still waters provide added glamour to its already elegant atmosphere. You have a choice of either sitting on the lush couches, in the cubicles or at the long bar. The cubicles (which are sun decks by day) have raised tatami seats giving one more privacy and informality. The
y are an obvious favourite with most patrons and are built into the side of the wall with only glass separating you from thin air and a phenomenal view of the city.

The mezzanine floor is actually for VIP guests only and is situated just above the long bar in the main area. It is the highest level on the building and it is covered by canopies to keep you dry and your hair and make up intact even in bad weather. Access to this floor is by invitation only which is given out by the owner or General Manager of the bar at their own discretion.

The menu veers more to Italian cuisine with the foot-long hot dog and escargots as popular choices. Even though the dinner crowd comes in most from 7 pm – 9 pm, the kitchen does not close till 12 midnight. As for the drinks, the cocktails and mocktails are the “preferred drinks” at this place, so forget the beer as you would definitely want to be holding one of those to look like you belong.

Resident DJs spin chill out music seven days a week for a crowd that is there to unleash stress by having satisfying conversations over delicious cocktails. Recent weekends have seen foreign DJs being invited in, with plans for more to appear in the coming months. With a slightly pricey cover charge of RM50, you can be sure the amazing view and relaxing atmosphere will compensate for it.

With so many things that set Luna Bar in a class of its own, it certainly would be a different experience to have a few drinks with friends with the city lights twinkling below you. Even if it’s just for one night.
